Creating a crocheted hat requires between 15 and 40 hours of work, depending on the design, size, and complexity of the patterns. Constructing a hat is a unique technical exercise: it requires creating a three-dimensional shape that perfectly fits the head, with a well-fitting crown and a brim that retains its shape.
I select yarns suited to each type of hat: light and breathable cotton for summer hats, soft and warm wool for winter beanies, structured blends for berets and wide-brimmed hats which need to hold their shape.
Each hat is worked in a circular fashion, starting from the top of the crown and gradually increasing to create the desired shape.
The finishing touches are particularly important: the edge must be even, the patterns well aligned, and the shape stable.

Caring for your crocheted hat
- Cleaning: Spot clean small stains with a damp cloth. Hand wash completely if necessary, using a mild detergent.
- Drying: Dry flat, reshaping the hat on a support (upside-down bowl, balloon) to help it keep its shape.
- Storage: Store the hat filled with tissue paper to help it keep its shape, in a dry place away from light.
- Shape: If the edge becomes deformed, lightly dampen and reshape, then let it dry flat.
